What is included with a log home?
We prefer to ship only the materials not available locally. Our approach to this topic is that the customer can actually save money by negotiating with a local building suply company for all these conventional materials such as windows, doors and roofing. This also saves shipping and transportation fees.
Can I alter the interior layout of an existing design?
Yes, most often with little or no extra cost to you. Log homes can be built customized to your needs since all the support is to the outside walls. This allows you to have a roof over your home a lot quicker than a conventional home. You can arrange the partition walls to suit your individual needs and tastes.
What type of heating and cooling systems are recommended?
Any type of system used in a conventional home can also be used in a log home. Your local climate and building codes can vary. Please click on the consulting page to find out how you can talk to our representative about your specific needs.
Is insulation necessary in a log home?
Wood is a natural insulator, one of the best. A concrete wall would need to be 10 feet thick to equal the insulation qualities of our 8-inch thick logs. Wood is six times better than brick. 1600 times better than aluminum. However, floors, roofs and window trims may require insulation.
What kind of timber is used to build our log homes?
Our log homes are all cut from native southern yellow pine. They are uniform in size to eliminate water or snow ledges on the outer walls and to allow flexibility in finishing the interior walls. All logs are 8 inches thick.
How are the logs delivered to the construction site?
The log kits are shipped from our plant via flat bed trailer. The logs can be unloaded by hand with the proper amount of help. Since this method is rather slow, it might be wise to consider renting the service of a fork lift to unload the logs.
What about consumer financing?
Financing is the same as any typical mortgage loan. Conventional, FHA and VA financing is available. Please contact us for more information that might be available for your area.
Is it difficult to install electrical and plumbing?
Not at all. It's as simple, if not more so than wiring and plumbing a conventional home.
